Of F1, Baju Melayu and Wastage

Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Rasulullah (may peace be upon him) said: Verily Allah, the Glorious and Majestic, has forbidden for you: disobedience to mothers, and burying daughters alive, withholding the right of others in spite of being able to return that to them and demanding that (which is not one's legitimate right). And He disapproved three things for you: idle talk, persistent questioning and wasting of wealth.
-Hadith Sahih Muslim

Raya is coming near and everybody is doing their shopping, buying food stuff, new furniture, TV's and such. But, primarily, in my eyes anyway, the shopping is always focused on buying new clothes/baju raya. This goes the same with me, but for my mum. She bought for me 2, read it, TWO baju melayus (is it baju melayus or baju melayu's?). To me that is one big waste because I already have 2 perfectly fine baju melayu. I told my mum not to buy any but she did. I don't want to hurt my mum's feelings, so I just take them.

Our own government is also doing some wasting of their own. You may have (or may not have) heard the news that the Malaysian government is creating its own F1 team, so called the 1Malaysia F1 team, with help from Lotus and will be based in Sepang. Some say it will bring good economy to the country, help promote the country overseas and help the development in sports science. A part of me agrees with these things and a few other things like it will develop our automotive technology, and proving that a Muslim country, especially to the USA, that we can achieve much success in motorsports (in the 2010 F1 season, there is a new team entry called USF1). But, another part of me say this is such a waste of the peoples money. There are many other ways that we can promote our country, but why we must chose through F1. F1 is a very serious and expensive motorsports. 1 race car alone requires more that 1 million pounds just for development. Thats not including the cost of transportation, experts, wages and overhead costs. There will be even more wastage when the F1 team does not produce any results. I don't want history to repeat itself again. Remember the GoKL Minardi F1 Team?

All I'm saying is that god has told us that we must not waste anything, from food to time to money, and wasting is a sin. Some say what the government is doing is a great idea with the ideology of "the ends justify the means". But on the expense of the peoples money? I don't really think so. I the government is still on the idea of this F1 team, I just hope they execute it well, for the sake of my own money.

*Update: The cost per year for the F1 team is RM1 billion, and the car is damn ugly. Hope they change the colour.
